International Women’s Day Morning Tea at Strathfield Council

More Powerful together

Together we can empower women across the globe.

International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on 8th March and is an opportunity to reflect on the progress of empowering women and girls, and plan for the future.

Strathfield Council will once again be gathering together this year to celebrate incredible women in our local area, as well as gain inspiration for a more equal tomorrow.

Council is delighted to welcome Dr Renee Lim as this year’s distinguished keynote speaker. Renee balances a diverse range of careers uniting her passion for medicine, health and wellbeing, and her belief in the integral value of education to empower people. She also has a great love of performance, which has led to starring roles in theatre, film and television as an actor and presenter.

EVENT INFORMATION

Council is delighted to welcome Dr Renee Lim as this year’s distinguished keynote speaker. Renee balances a diverse range of careers uniting her passion for medicine, health and wellbeing, and her belief in the integral value of education to empower people. She also has a great love of performance, which has led to starring roles in theatre, film and television as an actor and presenter.

Renee is currently presenting on Ask the Doctor – a new ABC series that addresses the state of the nation’s health, the latest in medical treatments and the future of healthcare as we know it.

If this wasn’t enough, Renee has also worked in the NSW hospital system as a locum doctor in the areas of emergency medicine, palliative care, and geriatrics for many years, visiting almost every major hospital in the greater Sydney area.

Our guest speaker this year will be Stacey Gadd, Ambassador for Pink Hope. Stacey will be sharing her extraordinary story of her personal health journey. After a genetic test revealed she had inherited the BRCA2 gene mutation at 18 years old, Stacey underwent regular surveillance for four years before making a brave decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy.

She was one of the first Australian women to publicly share her story on Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes alongside Pink Hope Founder Krystal Barter, wanting to give hope to others going through the same experience. Stacey remains an active advocate for women’s health through various campaigns with Pink Hope.

When: Friday 8 March 2019, 10am – 12pm
Where: Strathfield Town Hall, 65 Homebush Rd, Strathfield
